Sunday is AcoZunday. Probably not every weekend but we want to update you frequently about the latest news, discuss our progress, explain our ideas and present insights from the recycling world.
Today, we want to give some more details and further background on why we set up AcoZystem as a cooperative.
There were obviously a number of important features that we needed to have in order to lay a solid foundation for the company. Our focus evolved around two main criteria:
- A collaborative approach to maximize the benefits of joint efforts
- Long-term oriented and transparent ownership to establish a strong backbone for expansion
We found these three parameters and much more when we dug deeper into the specifics of cooperatives which are defined, according to the International Cooperative Alliance, as an “autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned enterprise”.
Cooperatives obviously have the collaborative approach as part of their DNA while avoiding to require the personal and emotional involvement of a club or NGO. At the same time we feel very connected to the definition above, since the statement highlights the balance of economic, social and cultural ambitions.
The democratic idea and elevated level of transparency connected to that is one giant “trust-builder” which we were able to incorporate in the company from the very start. Each member of AcoZystem has the same voting power as every other member and can receive the same amount of data every other member does. We believe that this trust goes both ways and assures that our members are committed to the company.
In addition to these factors cooperatives minimize and limit the risk of members and investors which eases the onboarding of new members significantly.
